When You want to ski your brains out!
Every year, I am asked something along the lines of, "Which trip offers the most skiing with the least amount of 'hassle'?"
The "Santa Rosa" is the name I have given to my answer to this question.
The Santa Rosa is a mythical storm that usually arrives in late August or early September. It is often seen as the largest storm of the year. And while there is no scientific proof of this event, it is amazing how often it ends up being the case.
It's no secret that skiing true powder is not common in Chile. The storms can be monstrous, but they often come with wind and precip rates that force us to sit it out, drinking pisco sours and hoping the blue sky comes soon. For years, I have looked for a destination that gives me and my clients the best chance of skiing a lot of great snow and missing a minimal number of days. I feel like I am onto something.
By utilizing the areas near the Chillan group of volcanoes, as well as the Lonquimay area, I am finding that we ski a lot and sit around a little. Both of these areas have great zones for touring, with a huge variety of elevations and aspects. There's a little bit of tree skiing. There are interesting destinations like hot springs to visit when the light is too flat for really good shredding.
This itinerary also minimizes travel time. There's a travel day on each end of the trip, and only one in the middle. Again, it's all in an effort to maximize the time on snow.
So why not only offer this trip? Honestly, there's a reason the word "adventure" is in the company name. I think a lot of folks are still looking to get farther out there. This trip offers opportunities to experience Chilean culture and see some of the country; but not as much as Invernada or Classic Chilean Volcano trips. It's much more focused on the skiing.
Santa Rosa 2017
The ideal time slot would be August 26th to September 4th, but there's flexibility to this. This is prime time!
Pricing for this trip is the same as for the Classic Chilean Volcanoes. You can read all the details on the "Pricing and Policies" page.
This trip is great for ALL ability levels – from never-ever to the most experienced backcountry skiers.
