Logistics planning and support

Are you an adventurous traveler looking for a more independent experience, but want some of the logistical headaches sorted out more easily?  I get it.  I have ten-years of traveling in Chile, and countless "mistakes" and delays in that time.  When you're traveling and exploring for months at a time, a lost day or two adds to the experience.  When you only have a week or two, every moment counts.

Over the years I have learned a tremendous amount about traveling through Chile efficiently.  I have used every method of transport imaginable.  I have stayed in the best hotels and also the cheapest, often most charming, off-the-beaten path hostels.  I know great restaurants and fun road side empanada stands.  I am thrilled to share this information if it means you have a better experience in Chile.

Here's how it works:

1. Send me a note and give me an idea about what you'd like to do.  It can be as brief as, "I'd like to ski volcanoes for two-weeks."

2. We will kick some ideas around and get a basic outline of a trip that will work for you.

3. I charge a rate of $100 per day of your trip.  For example: we will plan your seven-day trip, my fee is $700.*

4. I create a detailed list of options for you, and we narrow this down to a specific, detailed itinerary.  This includes:

~ A list of ski objectives, and some very basic information**
~ Hotel bookings – I will even help make the reservation if your Spanish isn't sufficient.
~ In-country transportation details – air, bus, car rental, taxi, horse, etc.

~ A detailed list of cost estimates!
~ Restaurant and grocery shopping suggestions
~ A list of side diversions like hot springs, etc.
~ Suggested gear lists and information regarding supplies like gas or mountaineering gear.
          ~ Rescue and medical information
~ A list of weather resources
~ Travel safety, cultural and communication tips

In the end you will have a document that is about eight to twelve pages in length – essentially the keys to the castle!  My goal is to eliminate the headaches, not the adventure.  I think traveling in Chile is amazing and want to see you get the most out of your trip.

With this information you should know that your innkeepers are waiting for you, your ground transportation is secured and you won't waste tons of time worrying about normally simple logistical issues.  I realize that not everyone wants a guide, or can afford a fully-guided, private experience; but you want some of the hassle eliminated, and a person that you can trust to help you get started.  As a bonus, I would guess that the package I put together is less-expensive than the one you could have created from home – probably enough to offset the cost of my service in most cases.

Notes:

* I have no formal relationships with any hotel or agency in Chile.  I receive no commission or kick-back from any service I recommend. I am not a travel agent.  I am a guide with a lot of experience in Chile.    I realize that many of you want just "a part" of my typical service, which is what this fee reflects.

** For liability reasons, I cannot share detailed route information.  I am happy to share basic information like typical ascent times, and gear suggestions like you should have crampons; but for obvious reasons getting too detailed leaves me exposed to liability because it can't take into account current conditions.

    Let's start planning!
